Story told by Allen Simon
We didn’t always have a powwow in Kanehsatà:ke. The powwow started here in the 90s after the Siege of Kanehsatà:ke. Walter David Sr. started it in July, but it’s now done at the end of August.
My favourite thing to get there is the buffalo burgers with fried bread. Every year there was a guy who used to come and make them there. Back in 2023, he didn’t come, so no buffalo burger.
The powwow was something that I enjoyed doing with a friend of mine. We used to go to them together and I enjoyed it very much, but she passed away now.
Now when I go, I park on the outside of the powwow grounds and I watch everything and listen to music.
That's what I go for, but mostly it’s for my buffalo burgers.
