Story told by Joe Jacobs
Do you have a sense of peacefulness behind these trees?
Yes, there’s a feeling of peacefulness behind these cedar trees.
At the road are these cedar trees that were planted over 100 years ago.
They provide shade, a home for the little birds, beauty, and medicine.
My grandfather planted them because he liked cedar trees. I remember in the old homestead having quite a few cedars in the yard as well.
Next door, where my brother Willbert’s house is, was a big garden.
The garden contained potatoes, corn, beans, squash, and yellow flowers. Yellow flower was mainly used as medicine for infants to help bring their fever down.
Everyone plants a little patch for the yellow flower in their garden for this purpose.
